My Sister Inherited Everything, While My..

When our father passed away, my half-sister Lara got the house. I received an old, dusty chessboard. I assumed it was his final dig—just another reminder of how he always favored her. Lara, naturally, found it amusing. “A house for me, a hobby for you,” she teased with that familiar smug grin.

But that night, I noticed something odd. One of the chess pieces rattled. Curious, I tapped it and felt something shift inside. Later, during an argument, Lara knocked the board over, and when a knight hit the floor, it made a clicking sound. That’s when things got interesting.

Later that night, Lara snuck downstairs and began slicing the pieces open. Inside, she found tiny, sparkling gems. “Gems! Looks like I win again,” she gloated. But she didn’t know I had already discovered them—and replaced them with fakes. The real ones were safe in my name, locked away in a deposit box.

But the biggest surprise was still hidden. Beneath the felt lining, I uncovered a secret compartment containing a second will—our father’s backup plan. His handwritten note read: “If you are honest, you may live together in peace. If not, everything belongs to Kate.”

Lara had played her usual game—greedy, careless, thinking only of herself. And this time, she lost. I smiled and whispered, “Checkmate.”
