At just 16, Susan Peterson became pregnant and hoped her boyfriend James would support her. Instead, he left, not wanting the responsibility. As an orphan, Susan was devastated but resilient—she finished school, got a good job, and raised her daughter Ruth on her own.
As Ruth grew, she often asked about her father. Susan told her the truth—that he had left, but they didn’t need him to be happy. Ruth developed a deep mistrust of men and hated when her mother dated.
Years later, Susan met Jeremy and wanted to marry him. Ruth, fearing her mother would be hurt again, disliked Jeremy and tried to sabotage their relationship. On the wedding day, Ruth secretly took Susan’s dress and attempted to sell it at a salon to stop the wedding. The salon manager, who knew Susan, contacted her. Meanwhile, Susan was panicked when Ruth went missing and canceled the wedding.
When Susan found out the truth, she was heartbroken and locked herself in her room. Jeremy later found her unconscious from stress and rushed her to the hospital. Ruth, blaming herself, stayed by her mother’s side and apologized.
The next day, Susan forgave Ruth. Jeremy, who had secretly made Ruth a costume for her school event, won her heart. She called him “dad” and hugged him, finally accepting him as family.
Susan and Jeremy planned to marry by the end of the month—with Ruth as their biggest supporter.
