To Pay for My Daughter’s Education, I Agreed to a Very Unusual Proposal from My Boss

Being a single mom means your mind never stops—there’s always something to manage, from meals to doctor’s appointments to bills. One day, while juggling my daughter Lily’s schedule, I received a call that changed everything: her tuition grant was revoked.

I had no idea how to come up with the money, and the only person I could ask for help was Nathan, a colleague I barely knew. When I explained the situation, he surprised me by offering an unconventional solution: he needed a fake wife to inherit his family’s estate, and in return, Lily’s tuition would be covered forever. Desperate, I agreed.

We went to Nathan’s grandmother’s estate, where everything was extravagant, and I pretended to be his wife. As the days passed, Nathan and I started to connect in ways I didn’t expect. He was kind to Lily, and I began to see a different side of him.

But Nathan’s grandmother didn’t approve. She threatened to cut him off completely if he went through with the plan. The night before the wedding, I overheard her cruel words and decided to leave. The next morning, Nathan showed up at my door, admitting he’d told his grandmother he loved me and Lily and was willing to lose everything for us.

In that moment, I realized it was no longer a fake marriage—it was real. And for the first time, I felt like I belonged.
