Angelina couldn’t visit her ailing father, Chris Harvey, in the hospital—she had no more PTO left. So, she asked her son Peter to go in her place and care for him in Austin. Peter hesitated but agreed, saying his wife, Hannah, would join him.
When Chris returned home from the hospital, he was shocked to find his house nearly emptied, furniture on the lawn, and renovations underway. Peter claimed it was a surprise remodel to cheer him up. Grateful, Chris believed them—until he overheard a private conversation.
Hannah angrily told Peter they were wasting money fixing up a house they thought they’d inherit soon—since Chris was “supposed to be dying.” Peter tried to calm her, saying it was still a good investment. Chris was devastated but kept quiet.
He later surprised them by announcing he would stay in the house for the rest of his life. At a housewarming party Peter and Hannah threw—thinking the home would soon be theirs—Chris exposed their scheme in front of their friends and declared he was leaving the house to charity.
Embarrassed and furious, the couple was thrown out. Chris told Angelina everything and warned her to be careful with her son. He lived 11 more years and kept his word—donating the house and his estate to a charity for the elderly.
