I had been staying with my son Andrew and his resentful wife Kate for two weeks due to an exaggerated leg injury. Kate reluctantly agreed to the arrangement, and I could tell she was struggling with it.
One morning, I tried to offer Kate advice on raking leaves, but she didn’t take kindly to it. When I commented on her cooking later, she asked me to leave the kitchen, and the tension between us grew.
That evening, I overheard Andrew and Kate discussing how they hoped I’d bond with their neighbor, Mr. Davis, who had been acting strangely kind toward me. To my surprise, he invited me to dinner, and as we shared a quiet evening, we danced to the sound of a broken record player.
Soon after, I learned the truth—Andrew and Kate had orchestrated the entire situation. They offered Mr. Davis a record player to encourage him to date me. Betrayed, I confronted them, but Andrew admitted it was all part of an attempt to help me find happiness.
Peter, the neighbor, tried to explain, confessing his feelings for me. Despite my anger, his words softened my heart, and I forgave him. From then on, we grew closer, with music, laughter, and love filling our lives, making each year’s Thanksgiving special.
