Silverback gorilla teaches himself to walk upright on two legs

Ambam, a silverback gorilla at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park in Kent, England, has gained global attention for his remarkable ability to walk upright like a human. Standing at six feet tall and weighing 34 stone, his human-like stride has made him a viral sensation, captivating both zoo visitors and internet users. What makes Ambam’s ability even more impressive is that he reportedly taught himself this skill without any external training.

Zoo scientists explain that Ambam started mimicking the movements of his zookeepers and, over time, developed the balance to walk on two legs with ease. His natural curiosity and intelligence likely played a key role in this behavior.

While walking upright is rare for gorillas, who typically use their knuckles for movement, Ambam’s behavior demonstrates the impressive adaptability and learning abilities of these great apes. Beyond his internet fame, Ambam also serves as an ambassador for conservation efforts.
