“No! Uncle J! Barbie is married to Ken!” Mia giggled, and Jacob smiled, feeling a rare sense of joy after everything that had happened. He had been visiting his brother Liam’s house every Thursday since Mia’s liver disease diagnosis. She was on the transplant list, but no family member was a match. Her health was deteriorating, and she was too weak to play, though Jacob’s visits gave her energy.
Emma, Liam’s wife, appreciated Jacob’s support, while his own wife, Melissa, couldn’t join due to work. Jacob cherished these moments with his nieces, not knowing how much longer he’d have with Mia.
“Barbie could have a girlfriend, right?” Jacob teased, making the girls laugh. Emma smiled from the doorway, grateful for his help. After a while, she brought over treats, and they all paused for a snack.
As they ate, Jacob’s phone pinged with a notification from his home security system. Checking it, he saw something shocking: Melissa, who should’ve still been at work, was in their living room, taking off her skirt and climbing onto Liam’s lap. Jacob froze, his heart racing. He watched in disbelief as his brother and wife betrayed him right in his own home.
Unable to tear himself away, he stared at the scene, feeling crushed. He forced himself to look away, focusing on the fridge covered with family magnets and Mia’s medical schedule. He tried to breathe but felt destroyed. While he was helping his nieces through their toughest time, his wife and brother were tearing his world apart.
Jacob had no idea how long the affair had been going on. Was it the first time? His phone had never notified him like this before, even though the cameras had been installed for months.
But how could they do this? He never suspected his wife and brother. His thumb hurt from gripping the phone too tightly as he watched the betrayal unfold. He closed the app, knowing it would save the footage.
When Emma asked if he was alright, he lied. “Just work stuff,” he said, before returning to the girls. But his mind kept racing. He needed a plan, something to make them pay.
Later, at home, Jacob hacked into Liam’s computer, deleting everything he could find. But it didn’t feel like enough. He even accessed Liam’s bank details and froze his accounts. Revenge wasn’t satisfying, but it was a start.
At dinner the next day, Jacob’s patience wore thin. His family, oblivious to the affair, sat around the table. The moment came when Jacob’s phone pinged, and everyone watched the video of his wife and brother.
The chaos erupted—his mother slapped Melissa, and Emma screamed for a divorce. Jacob’s heart sank, but he couldn’t stop. He told Melissa to leave, promising a divorce.
Later, Jacob celebrated, but the moment was short-lived. Liam called, his voice raw. “Mia’s gone,” he cried. “She couldn’t get the help she needed because of you.”
Jacob was struck. All the anger drained out of him. But it was too late. His revenge had cost him everything.
