My Wife Kicked Out Our Exchange Student Over a Swedish Tradition — But Karma Struck the Very Next Day

When a Swedish birthday song upset my wife Melissa, she demanded our exchange student Brigitte leave immediately. But fate had other plans.

Brigitte, a kind and enthusiastic 16-year-old from Sweden, had been with us only two months. On her birthday, after a joyful video call with her family singing a traditional—but darkly humorous—Swedish song, Melissa misunderstood and was furious, ordering Brigitte to pack.

The next day, as a fierce storm hit, Melissa’s elderly mother needed urgent help. Brigitte stepped up, braving the storm to assist.

That night, sharing stories by candlelight, Melissa’s mother reminded us that death is “just another birthday,” and laughter is vital.

Melissa apologized to Brigitte, asking her to stay. Together, they laughed at the silly Swedish song, finding healing and new family bonds amid the storm.
