After a grueling swimming competition in London, James boards an eight-hour flight to New York, hoping to catch some rest. Equipped with earplugs and sleeping pills, he’s ready to sleep through the journey—until the woman in the aisle seat makes her entrance.
From the moment she sits down, it’s clear she’s going to be a handful. Complaining about the lack of space, incessantly pressing the call button, and making sarcastic comments, she claims to be the victim of a “human rights violation.” Her constant elbowing and loud rants make the flight unbearable for both James and the quiet woman sitting by the window.
Despite several attempts by the flight attendants to calm her, nothing works. She even demands that James and the window-seat woman be moved so she can have more room. By the fourth hour, James is at his breaking point. When the plane finally lands, she jumps up before the seatbelt sign is off, rushing to the front.
But then the captain’s voice comes over the intercom: “We have a special guest onboard today…” The captain walks down the aisle and stops at James’s row. “Here she is, seat 42C! Let’s give her a round of applause.”
The entire plane erupts in laughter and applause as the woman turns crimson with embarrassment. It’s the perfect ending to a long flight. James and the window-seat woman exchange a relieved laugh, both thankful the ordeal is over—and hoping they’ll never encounter a “Karen” again.
