Camille and I became friends in college, and when she got engaged, I was thrilled to be her bridesmaid. But as the wedding planning went on, her obsession with perfection became overwhelming, with strict guidelines on everything from dresses to shoes.
Around the same time, I started losing my hair due to a hormone imbalance. I had to cut it short to avoid bald spots, which didn’t fit Camille’s vision for the wedding. A few days before the big day, she sent me a cold email saying I no longer fit her vision and needed to step down from the wedding.
I invoiced her for the \$1,200 I had spent on dresses and other expenses, and she paid me. My friends rallied behind me, quitting the wedding in protest. Afterward, I received the dress back with a note from her fiancé, Jake, apologizing for the situation.
Instead of letting it go to waste, I donated the dress to a cancer patient organization, feeling empowered and supported by my real friends. Standing up for myself was worth every penny.
