
I pushed through every hardship to reach my goal—and I did. I bought the house. It wasn’t extravagant, but it was mine: a space filled with pride, peace, and proof of every sacrifice.
Jack barely reacted. “Cool. When’s dinner?” I brushed it off, too happy to care.
But at the housewarming, his uninvited parents arrived—bags in hand—claiming it was “tradition” for them to move in. Diane demanded the master bedroom. Jack just shrugged.
Something inside me snapped. I smiled, nodded… and made a plan.
The next morning, I changed the locks and filed for divorce. Jack woke to his things in boxes. When his parents returned, they found the doors locked and me gone.
“Jack’s no longer my problem,” I told them.
I blocked every number, ignored his dramatic email, and for the first time in years, sat in my home—truly free.
