Husband Went to Friend’s Wedding for 3 Days, Leaving Me and Kids $20 — He Fell to His Knees after What He Saw upon Returning

Hey, it’s Iris. Life isn’t as perfect as it may seem from the outside. I’m a stay-at-home mom, juggling two kids: Ollie, an energetic 8-year-old, and Sophie, my sassy 6-year-old. Paul, my husband, works hard, but lately, he’s been distant. After our second child, he’s been focusing more on work and his own “me time,” leaving me to handle everything at home.

Last week, Paul came home early, excited about a wedding trip—but it turned out he was going alone. His friend, Alex, didn’t want partners there. I was disappointed and asked if any single women would be there, jokingly. Paul got defensive, and we had a huge fight. He accused me of being controlling, and I snapped, pointing out how he always prioritizes his friends over us. In the heat of the moment, he sarcastically handed me \$20 and challenged me to run the house while he was gone.

With only \$20, the fridge barely had anything. Frustrated, I thought about what to do. I noticed his prized coin collection and, despite the guilt, I decided to sell them to get groceries. I managed to get \$700 and bought food for the kids.

When Paul came home, he was oddly cheerful, bringing bags of groceries, but then noticed his coins were gone. He broke down, devastated. I felt a rush of regret and rushed to the pawnshop to buy them back. I managed to get them and returned home, hoping it would fix things.

When Paul saw the coins back, he quietly said, “We need to talk.” We spent hours talking about everything, and although trust can’t be fixed overnight, we learned that communication is key. I realized that misunderstandings can happen, but it’s important to work through them together.
