Every time his son comes over, my husband asks me to leave the house to please his ex.

When Marilyn agreed to spend weekends at her parents’ so her husband Scott could have time with his son Ben, she thought she was being supportive. But after months of this routine, she came home unexpectedly and uncovered the truth.

Married just six months, Marilyn believed their marriage was solid. She had bonded with Scott’s shy six-year-old son and even got along with his ex, Patricia—until after the wedding.

One day, Scott asked Marilyn to leave on weekends, saying Patricia didn’t want Ben around her anymore, fearing it would confuse him. To avoid conflict, he suggested Marilyn stay with her parents. Hesitant but trusting, Marilyn agreed.

Every Friday, Marilyn packed up and left the home she’d bought before meeting Scott. Her mom grew suspicious, but Marilyn insisted it was temporary. Weeks turned into months.

One Friday, fed up, Marilyn turned around and went back home. The house was quiet—no sign of Ben. Instead, she found Scott and Patricia lounging on the couch—Patricia wearing Marilyn’s pajamas.

“What’s going on?” Marilyn asked.

Scott faltered. Patricia smirked, revealing Ben was at her mother’s, as usual on Fridays.

It was never about Ben.

Patricia confessed that she and Scott were trying to restart their relationship during Marilyn’s absence—Scott’s idea to send Marilyn away.

Marilyn calmly pulled out her phone and played a recording she had made the previous week.
