Richard was walking home from the grocery store when he saw his ex-wife, Vanessa, with a younger man. Furious, he followed them into a café, where he confronted her about moving on so quickly after their divorce. But then, the man stood up and asked, “Mom… is this my Dad?”
Vanessa explained, revealing a secret she’d kept for years. In 1968, at 17, Vanessa had a one-night stand with Richard, which resulted in a pregnancy. She’d been pressured by her stepmother to deceive her boyfriend, Dylan, into believing he was the father. Dylan eventually discovered the truth, rejected her, and Vanessa gave the baby up for adoption.
Vanessa moved to a new city and later rekindled her relationship with Richard. But it wasn’t until now, decades later, that Simon, her son, found her and revealed he had been searching for her. Richard, shocked, asked why Vanessa had never told him. Vanessa explained that by the time she tried, Simon had already been adopted.
Richard, now 75, was overwhelmed by the revelation. “You should’ve been honest,” he said. “Second chances are important.” Despite the years of deception, there was still a chance to rebuild their relationship.
