A father honours a teenager who escorted his autistic son to prom

Sometimes, it takes just one kind gesture to restore our faith in humanity. A few years ago, Mike Larson shared a touching story on Facebook about his autistic son, Jon, that continues to inspire.

Jon, a 17-year-old with autism, had never expected to attend prom. Then one day, Maddi, a senior at his school, walked into Mike’s office and asked if she could take Jon to prom. She had met him through a school club that connects students with special needs and was determined to make sure Jon didn’t miss out on the experience.

Maddi went above and beyond — wearing his favorite color, booking a table at a restaurant that served his favorite foods, and making sure the night was perfect. Mike shared a photo of the pair and wrote, “It would be an honor to have him go with her.”

The post went viral, reaching over a million shares. Mike said he posted it not only to support kids like Jon, but also to spotlight the power of empathy and kindness. Maddi never saw her act as anything special, but it gave Jon a moment he’d never forget.

Years later, Jon is still doing well, and Maddi has since moved on with her life, quietly proud of the difference she made. As Mike said, “I never imagined this would happen for our family — and in such a beautiful way.”

If this story warmed your heart, share it with someone who could use a reminder that there are still good people in the world.
