Cora spent the morning feeling unusually happy, excited about the Valentine’s Day surprise she had planned for Eric. As she prepared for his arrival, she remembered how they met at a business conference and bonded over their shared childhood experiences as orphans. They married quickly, and soon had triplets, but as Eric became the primary breadwinner, tensions arose, especially when Cora had to manage the children.
Their financial struggles led to sacrifices, and even though Eric worked tirelessly, they hadn’t enjoyed luxuries like vacations or dining out for years. Cora, understanding their situation, made the most of what they had. She wore an old red dress Eric had given her for their first anniversary, saving money for the evening’s dinner. She prepared a special meal and set up a cozy, romantic atmosphere, eager to surprise Eric.
However, when Eric came home, he was furious. He yelled at her for spending money and time on the dinner, criticizing her for the state of the house and the food. His anger escalated, and Cora, feeling hurt, stormed out to buy diapers for the crying babies. An hour later, a police officer arrived with shocking news: Cora had died in a car accident.
Eric was devastated. At the mortuary, he could hardly believe it was Cora. Back at home, he found the gift she had left for him—a note inside two plane tickets to Hawaii. The note revealed she had started a job and planned a vacation for them, along with a surprise for the future. Eric, overwhelmed with guilt and sorrow, sobbed uncontrollably.
From that day on, he never loved again. Every Valentine’s Day, he visited Cora’s grave, wishing he could apologize and make things right.
