I’m a loner, still legally married to a woman who ran away before our wedding ten years ago. Every year, she sends me a new envelope with divorce papers, but I never sign them. My life is simple, peaceful—just me, my dog, and my farm.
One day, Melanie shows up unexpectedly. She wants me to sign the papers, but I refuse, demanding that she be honest about why she left. She insists it’s over, but I don’t believe it. We argue, but deep down, I still love her.
Days pass, and Melanie spends time in town, while I work on the farm. Finally, we have a heart-to-heart. She admits she was scared of settling down, but I never realized how much she wanted more than what I could offer.
As she prepares to leave again, I ask her one final question: Is she truly happy? She doesn’t answer, and I almost let her go again. But this time, I chase after her, only to find I’m too late. Just as I give up, she reappears, realizing that her heart was never in her New York life.
We drive home together, tear up the divorce papers, and decide to start over—this time, with honesty and a chance at a life together.
