When Anthony showed up with a giant rocking horse, I knew he had an ulterior motive. My ex-husband never did anything without a reason, especially when it came to Ethan.
“Thought Ethan might like this,” he said, grinning. I forced a smile. “That’s… thoughtful of you.”
After bringing it in, he rushed to show Ethan, and I braced myself for the inevitable disappointment. Sure enough, he promised Ethan a cowboy hat and a fun weekend, only to cancel their plans last minute, claiming work.
“Don’t lecture me,” he snapped when I confronted him. “Remember, my lawyers are challenging the custody agreement.”
Later, I discovered a voice recorder hidden in the rocking horse, planted by Anthony to gather evidence against me. Furious, I turned to my lawyer, who assured me it was inadmissible in court.
I outsmarted Anthony by filling the recorder with children’s TV noise, rendering it useless. When he later tried to retrieve it, I knew he had been defeated. The victory, though small, reinforced my resolve to protect my son—no matter what.
