Maria came from a poor background and faced life’s hardships alone after Aiden’s father left. Working long hours as a janitor, she sacrificed everything to raise her son and ensure he had a better future. Determined, she put him through a good boarding school and promised to support his dream of going to college.
Years later, Aiden excelled in science and aspired to become a doctor. During a shadowing program, he met Linda, the daughter of a wealthy doctor, and the two began dating. Maria was wary of Linda’s upper-class family but supported the relationship after meeting Linda and seeing her humility.
When Aiden and Linda got engaged, Maria planned a small celebration. However, Linda’s parents, Hugh and Elizabeth, initially disapproved due to Aiden’s modest background. Though they eventually gave their blessing and funded a lavish wedding, they looked down on Maria and treated her coldly during the event.
At the wedding, Hugh and Elizabeth proudly announced they’d furnish the couple’s future home. Then it was Maria’s turn to speak. Despite whispers from the crowd expecting a modest gift, she stunned everyone by revealing she had saved for years to pay for Aiden’s college — money he never needed thanks to a scholarship. She had used those savings to buy him and Linda a house.
The crowd applauded, and Hugh and Elizabeth were left speechless. After the ceremony, they apologized for their judgment, finally recognizing Maria’s strength and dedication.
Aiden went on to become a doctor and joined Hugh’s practice. He insisted Maria retire, and Linda threw her a retirement party. Aiden even bought her a new car in gratitude. In time, Maria became a beloved grandmother, sharing joyful moments with her grandchildren — and, surprisingly, with Hugh and Elizabeth too.
