Autistic Teen’s Prom Dream Realized by Classmate’s Heartwarming Gesture

In a heartwarming example of kindness and inclusion, a high school senior named Maddi made a lasting impact by inviting her autistic classmate, Jon, to prom—fulfilling a dream he and his family never thought possible. The two met through a school club that fosters friendships between special needs students and their peers.

Maddi didn’t stop at just asking Jon—she personalized the whole evening to make it special for him. Knowing his favorite color was orange, she wore an orange dress, and she planned dinner around his favorite foods: chicken fingers, fries, and chocolate milk.

Jon’s father, Mike Larson, was deeply moved, sharing the story online in 2013. It quickly went viral, touching millions with its message of compassion and empathy. Maddi never sought the spotlight, but her simple act of kindness reminded the world that inclusion and thoughtfulness can change lives—and inspire others to do the same.
